When to see a physiotherapist
In Morocco, physiotherapy (kinésithérapie, often shortened to kiné) is usually prescribed after a fracture or sprain, after surgery (knee or hip replacement, ACL reconstruction, shoulder), for back and neck pain or sciatica, for postnatal pelvic floor rehabilitation, for children's respiratory physiotherapy and after a stroke. If pain worsens or comes with fever, numbness or weakness, see a doctor first.
How much does a session cost in Fez?
Private physiotherapists set their own fees. In Fez, a standard clinic session usually costs MAD 100–200 (roughly €14–25), and MAD 50–100 more for a home visit. Many practices offer packages of 10 sessions. Payment is generally in cash; ask before your first visit. Full figures (in French) in our physiotherapy price guide.
Insurance and reimbursement
Moroccan residents covered by the AMO (CNSS or CNOPS) can claim part of the cost with a doctor's prescription, on a reference fee well below the price actually paid. Visitors and tourists usually pay the full fee and claim it from their travel or international health insurance: ask the practice for a detailed receipt (reçu) and keep the prescription.
Choosing a physiotherapist
Proximity matters, as rehabilitation often takes 10 to 30 sessions. Ask about the fee per session and for packages, the length of a session and how much of it is one-to-one with the physiotherapist, and which languages are spoken (French and Arabic are standard; English is less common, so it is worth asking). After surgery or a stroke, prefer a practice used to these cases.
